Updated:

Chinese President Xi Jinping received a ceremonial welcome from Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow's grand St George Hall, where both leaders reaffirmed their deepening strategic partnership.

Arriving on Wednesday for a four-day state visit, Xi was welcomed as the “main guest” at upcoming Victory Day celebrations.

The leaders confirmed plans to expand trade and investment, with talks also focusing on energy supplies and collaboration within the BRICS group of emerging economies.

Facing strained ties with the West, both nations have deepened diplomatic and economic ties since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

China has not supplied arms but has offered strong political backing, while Russia supports Beijing on Taiwan.
