Donald Trump will speak by phone to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on Monday to discuss finding a way out of the “BLOODBATH” in the Ukraine war, the US president said on Truth Social.

Afterward, Trump said in his post, he will speak to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Nato officials, expressing hope that a “ceasefire will take place, and this very violent war … will end.”

His comments follow a Saturday Russian drone attack on a minibus carrying civilians that killed nine people, Ukraine authorities said, a day after Moscow and Kyiv agreed a large-scale prisoner swap at talks in Turkey.

The Kremlin on Saturday said Ukraine and Russia must first complete an agreed prisoner-of-war exchange and come up with ceasefire conditions, before planning any new talks.

“For now, we need to do what the delegations agreed on yesterday” in Turkey – the first direct talks in over three years – the Kremlin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov told journalists following a question on whether there were plans for a second round of talks. “This, of course, means first and foremost to complete a 1,000 for 1,000 (POW) swap.”

At the end of a tense week, Ukraine and Russia held their first direct talks in more than three years but failed to agree to a truce.
